National Snowshoe Championships Coming to Eau Claire, Wisconisin

Event to Have Estimated $135,000 Economic Impact

Visit Eau Claire, in conjunction with the Visit Eau Claire Sports Commission, is happy to welcome the 2015 Dion Snowshoes US National Snowshoe Championships February 28– March 1, 2015 at Lowes Creek County Park and the Eau Claire County Expo Center.

The Visit Eau Claire Sports Commission teamed up with the Chippewa Off Road Bike Association to bid for the championships against four other destinations and was awarded the event at the 2014 Championships in Woodford, VT.  The snowshoe championships are comprised of Junior National 5km championships, Senior Men’s and Women’s 10km championships, Kid’s Kilo Run/Walk, Citizens’ 5km Run/Walk, a 4x2.5km Snowshoe Team Relay event, and new this year, a half-marathon national championship event.

Competition will be held from 9:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, February 28th, and 9:00am-1:00pm Sunday, March 1st.  Concessions will be available and the event is free and open to the public to enjoy.  The 2014 National Championship event drew nearly 400 athletes and 300-400 participants are expected in Eau Claire.

The event has an estimated economic impact of $135,000 for the Eau Claire Area.

The Visit Eau Claire Sports Commission has partnered with the Chippewa Off-Road Bike Association to host this event.  Visit Eau Claire effectively markets the Eau Claire area as a destination for conventions, group tour, sporting events, and leisure markets; to promote regional economic growth; to enhance the area’s overall identity and image; to sell fun, promote fun, and most importantly – Have FUN.
