Milwaukee is gearing up for an epic table tennis tournament with about 300 players battling for $11,000 in prize money. Milwaukee County Sports Complex will host the tournament on September 20-22.

Some of the top players from all around the US will be competing.  “Wisconsin residents and spectators from around the Midwest will have the opportunity to see the best table tennis in the US that weekend in September. Table tennis is an Olympic sport and you cannot really appreciate how fast and exciting the sport is until you watch some high level matches in person.” said Linda Leaf, Tournament Director. Spectator admission is only $5.

30 events will take place on 50 tables. There are events for all ages and all levels of play. Some events are for high level players, and some events are for your average recreational basement player. Pre-registration for most events is required. However, interested players may sign up at the door for the Recreational event on Saturday at 6:00PM. Sign up at the door by 5:30PM. The entry fee is $35 and it is open to anyone who does not have a USATT rating. Basement ping pong players are encouraged to come and show off their skills.

2019 marks the 12th year of the Badger Open, and the second year with new sponsor JOOLA North America. Players may enter the tournament online by going to www.omnipong.com.

“JOOLA is a great partner,” Linda said. “And one fun event for everyone will be the World Mini Table Championships, which is a fun random draw tournament played on JOOLA mini tables and is open to everyone.”

The National Youth Table Tennis Association (NYTTA) is a non-profit organization and the sponsoring club for the 2019 Badger Open. NYTTA is open for play and offers coaching for all levels and all ages.
