The 2017 USA Paratriathlon National Championships will take place June 25 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, in conjunction with the Pleasant Prairie Triathlon.

National titles will be up for grabs in six sport classes (revised for 2017), and athletes will compete in a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course at Prairie Springs Park and Lake Andrea.

In addition to chasing national titles, athletes may also qualify for the USA Paratriathlon Development Team Program, designed to identify and develop athletic potential leading toward the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. More information on the USA Paratriathlon Development Team Program is available at usatriathlon.org (PDF).

“We are excited the Pleasant Prairie Triathlon will host the National Championships in 2017. They were part of our 2015 USA Paratriathlon Development Race Series and have had a long-standing relationship with the Dare2tri Paratriathlon Club; thus, they are well-educated on the needs of paratriathletes and will be poised to welcome the national championship athletes with open arms,” said Amanda Duke Boulet, USA Triathlon Paratriathlon Program Senior Manager. “We are eager to build on the U.S. Paralympic Triathlon Team’s success after the sport’s Paralympic Games debut in 2016 with eyes on the Tokyo 2020 Games.”

The Pleasant Prairie Triathlon has welcomed paratriathletes since its inception. Pleasant Prairie is situated between Milwaukee and Chicago.

"The Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to host the 2017 USA Paratriathlon National Championships with RecPlex, the Village of Pleasant Prairie, USA Triathlon and the many volunteers in our community who give athletes the opportunity to compete in a great environment,” said Dennis DuChene, Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau President.

“Paratriathletes through Dare2tri have had a transformational presence at the Pleasant Prairie Triathlon. The athletes’ bravery and their willingness to push past obstacles that many of us will never fully understand is both humbling and inspiring. We feel incredibly fortunate to host the 2017 Paratriathlon National Championships because it brings even more amazing role models to our community,” said Craig Anderson, Village of Pleasant Prairie RecPlex Recreation Director.

Athletes wishing to compete in the 2017 USA Paratriathlon National Championships must be officially classified and must have completed a USA Triathlon or ITU Sanctioned Event that meets distance and time standards between May 1, 2016, and May 28, 2017. Athletes who are not classified or do not meet the time standards may choose to race in the PC Open Division. A National Classification opportunity will be offered in Pleasant Prairie prior to the event. Complete details on qualification standards and the link to register are available at usatriathlon.org.
