Meet to be Held Immediately Prior to Dallas’ National Championships

USA Weightlifting and the Dallas Sports Commission have partnered with the USA Weightlifting Masters Committee and the IWF Masters to bring the Masters World Cup to Dallas in August at the Hilton Anatole.

The Masters World Cup will be held immediately prior to the USA Weightlifting National Championships that will also be held at the Hilton Anatole from August 13-16.  The Masters World Cup will provide athletes aged 35 or over from all over the globe an international competition opportunity to set world records on American soil.  Texas will also host the 2015 World Championships in Houston in November.

Last held in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan in 2014, the Masters World Cup is one of the top Masters meets of the year and attracts international caliber athletes.  The United States boasts several reigning masters World Champions, and several US Olympians compete regularly at the Masters level.

“The 2013 Masters World Cup in Penang appears to have fired up Masters in many countries and shows their desire to compete in International Masters championships and on more than one or two occasions a year, said Bill Barton, Chairman of the IWF World Masters Committee.  “The 2014 Masters World Cup in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, attracted a larger entry than Penang and proves the point, and now Masters were actually asking where the 2015 Masters World Cup will be staged.”

Barton added, “The last time the USA were hosts to an International Masters event was the 2003 World Masters Championship in Savanah and the announcement from the USAW to organize the 2015 Masters World Cup is not only welcome but is right and proper and will hopefully open the door for the USA to host a World Masters Championship in the near future.”

USA Weightlifting will be returning to Dallas for their third event in three years as the 2013 American Open was held in downtown Dallas.

“We’re very excited to host USA Weightlifting for their 2015 Masters World Cup and the National Championships”, said Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission.  “We look forward to bringing more U.S. National Championship and Olympic-type events to Dallas.”
