The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), an affiliate of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to announce the appointment of Hunter Schmidt as its new Sports Tourism Manager.
Schmidt brings experience working as a Graduate Assistant at Angelo State University, where he was responsible for programming and instructing physical activity classes. This position helped sharpen his leadership and event coordination skills.
Additionally, Schmidt spent time as a game referee for the San Angelo Recreation Department. This provided firsthand experience with community engagement and athletics.
In his new position, Schmidt will play a crucial role in attracting regional and national sporting events to the city of Abilene. He will be working closely with key city venues, event organizers, and hotel partners to ensure Abilene will continue to be a top destination for sports.
Schmidt is a recent graduate of Angelo State University, where he earned a master’s degree in coaching, sport, recreation, and fitness administration. His background in sports administration makes him well equipped for the position.
"Hunter brings a fresh perspective and a strong work ethic to our team. His background in sports administration, combined with his hands-on experience in leadership, and community athletics, adds to the diversity of skillsets at the ACVB. He shares the values that drive our organization, and we are confident that his energy and passion will help strengthen Abilene’s reputation as a top destination for sports tourism,” said Robert Lopez, Vice President of the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The addition of Schmidt reinforces ACVB’s commitment to growing sports tourism, strengthening community partnerships, and showcasing Abilene as a premier destination for athletes and visitors.
