The Bassmaster High School National Championship will launch in Tennessee. According to an article in the Tennessean, the inaugural invitational tournament will take place July 16-19 on Kentucky Lake and Carroll County’s Thousand Acre Recreation Lake.

The article noted:

Henry and Carroll counties along with Bethel University in McKenzie will serve as hosts for the tournament, which will feature two teams from 48 states including Tennessee.

“High school fishing is the fastest growing outdoor sport entity in America right now without a doubt,” said Garry Mason, executive director of tourism for Northwest Tennessee and coach of the Bethel fishing team.

“College fishing has been growing leaps and bounds for some time now and high school fishing is really coming on and blossoming right behind it.”

High school fishing is a sanctioned varsity sport in Kentucky and Illinois. There is a push to sanction it in several other states, including Tennessee. The high school teams in Tennessee and other states where the sport is not sanctioned operate as clubs.
