Revolution3 (Rev3) is set to return to Knoxville May 4th & 5th for its fourth year running, adding a plethora of events to its staple triathlons appealing to an assortment of individuals and families. The new events are all part of Rev3 campaign to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to offer events for all ages and abilities. Also the race expo has expanded to a complete health and family outdoor community expo.

“Knoxville is a vibrant community, an active community," said Charlie Patten, founder of Revolution3. "We want to bring our event to Knoxville, not just so they can watch a triathlon event, but so they can participate, be a part of it and truly grasp the healthy benefits to an active lifestyle.”

This is the fourth year of the event with a pro class field of athletes for the Rev3 Olympic race, along with the Half Rev triathlon race. REV3 has named Knoxville as the location for the REV3 pro and age group championship in 2014.

"We are thrilled to welcome back the Rev3 to Knoxville with more new and exciting events, making this an action packed weekend full of activities for competitors and fans. We are confident that these athletes will love the challenging courses that Knoxville has to offer mixed with the scenic views of the Tennessee River, Ijams Nature Center, downtown Knoxville, and more,” said Kim Bumpas, President of Visit Knoxville. "Also, the Rev3Glow Run is a great new addition to this year’s schedule of events. Families and local residents are encouraged to participate in this event, and then enjoy an exciting evening of activities at World’s Fair Park.”

Another new component to this year’s race is the outreach and coordination with the Legacy Parks Foundation and Outdoor Knoxville to host several events for the local community throughout the weekend, including the Rev3 Knoxville Sprint Adventure Race.

“The location of the event, the overall ease of getting to the city and how welcoming the city is, we are thrilled to have Knoxville host our Championship Event in 2014. Knoxville is becoming a truly outdoor destination,” Patten said.

Some newly added events include:

REV3Glow Night 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run: Feel and hear the thrill of a crowd while the streets lights up and people’s lives brighten at the 2013 inaugural REV3Glow 5K & 1 mile Family Fun Run. This early evening race will be staged at the World’s Fair Park.

Health and Family Outdoor Expo: The REV3 Expo is designed with the whole family in mind. The finish line is situated right in the middle of the action. The REV3 triathlon is an interactive affair incorporating family, friends and the local community into the REV3 weekend experience.

REV3 Knoxville Sprint Adventure Race: In conjunction with Legacy Parks and River Sports, REV3 Adventure will be hosting the REV3 Knoxville Sprint Race designed for the beginner Adventure Racer.

Knoxville Family Adventure Race: A one-hour family adventure race at the World’s Fair Park. For this race, parents team up with one to four family members between the ages of 4 to 12 and follow a map throughout the World’s Fair Park, completing team challenges and finding different checkpoints. Lots of laughs and smiles will be had as families enjoy competing together through a maze of adventure challenges.

“REV3 has put on a tremendous triathlon event in Knoxville over the past 3 years,” said Eric Bell, Knoxville Race Director.  “REV3 wants to get the local community involved in being a part of the activities.  By making the event a weekend of outdoor activities that are fun and family friendly, the event should appeal to everyone in the community.”

Sponsors for the Knoxville REV3 events include Pilot Flying J on a national level as well as the Rush Fitness Complex, River Sports, Fleet Feet of Knoxville, and Knoxville Beauty Hunters on a local level. A portion of the proceeds from all the adventure events will be donated to two different non-profit groups in Knoxville.

“Pilot Flying J is well known in Knoxville as an active supporter of community health wellness initiatives. Our relationship with Revolution 3 has enabled us to support races in communities across the U.S., where our customers, especially professional drivers, live and work,” said Dave Parmly, employee services manager at Pilot Flying J. “Revolution 3 introduced us to the dedicated athletes of Truckers-to-Triathletes, professional drivers who meet the demands of that profession along with disciplined training to compete in triathlons. We hope that these drivers will inspire others to seek better health.”
