Yinzer Race Announces Details of Event
6 Aug, 2021
The Yinzer 5K is changing course - literally. Elevating the Pittsburgh-pride theme, the event wraps around the Northside of Pittsburgh with a 4.12K distance that honors the Steel City’s famous area code. The event originated by Light of Life Rescue Mission is now a partnership with P3R, organizers of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, as preparation for the in-person event begins.
The Yinzer 4.12K course brings the Pittsburgh theme to the streets as participants show their love for the city with black and gold gear and compete for the ‘Best Yinzer’ running costume. Plus, The Lil’ Yinzer 1-mile Fun Run is back, making it an event for the whole family.
The Yinzer 4.12K event takes place on August 14, 2021, on the North Shore with runners heading straight for PNC Park, round the home plate entrance and continue down W. General Robinson Street. Participants will round the bend and pass the Light of Life Rescue Mission on Voeghtly Street.
“This is the 9th year for our Yinzer Race and we are honored to partner with P3R,” said Jerrel Gilliam, Executive Director of Light of Life Rescue Mission. “The P3R team has helped us increase our vision for this event and bring a new level of excitement to showing our love for Pittsburgh. Plus, the 4.12K course gives everyone at every level an opportunity to come out and run.”
“As our newest neighbors in the North Shore, we are so excited to partner with Light of Life on this year’s event,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “Through this partnership, we are focused on bringing a unique course and our operational expertise to enhance this year’s event and benefit Light of Life’s mission.”
The event is annually held by Light of Life Rescue Mission to support its work for the homeless, addicted and those in need around Pittsburgh. Since 2018, Light of Life has raised $63,000 for the Mission through this event and that number continues to grow.
This year’s event is sponsored by Swimming Pool Discounters, the Pittsburgh area’s best swimming pool, spa and clearance center.
