The Valley National 8-Ball League Association (VNEA) Pennsylvania State 8-Ball Championships will take place Thursday through Sunday at the Bayfront Convention Center for four days of competition. This annual event is one of the largest state-level 8-ball tournaments and serves as the championship for league players who compete throughout the year in sanctioned VNEA divisions.

Festivities begin Thursday with the annual Spuds & Suds Welcome Party from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering players and supporters a chance to gather before competition begins. Singles action opens Friday at 2 p.m. and will continue until all matches conclude, featuring more than 1,500 entries that highlight the growing popularity of the event. Team competition, with 252 team entries, launches Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by Sunday’s schedule, which includes team finals beginning at 9 a.m. and running until completion, alongside the Junior Championships starting at 10 a.m. and featuring three divisions: Youth, Minors and Majors.

“This weekend represents months of commitment from our players and operators across the state,” said Melena Thompson, tournament organizer. “The championships give league members the chance to compete at a high level while representing their home venues and communities.”

The event generates over $1 million in estimated economic impact for Erie, drawing players, family members and spectators who book hotel rooms, dine locally and visit area attractions.

The No. 1 seeded Gannon Golden Knights will also host the NCAA Men’s Basketball Atlantic Regional this weekend at the Highmark Events Center. Joining Gannon in the tournament will be West Liberty (2), Fairmont State (3), Cal PA (4), Fayetteville State (5), Indiana, PA (6), Virginia Union (7) and Charleston (8).

Quarterfinal matchups are scheduled for Saturday, with games running from noon to 7:30 p.m. Semifinal games follow on Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m., and the Championship game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
