Sep 01, 2021

The Steelers Run and Walk, presented by Gatorade, opens registration with in-person and virtual options, encouraging all of Steelers Nation to participate in this year’s event. As in the past, all proceeds benefit the Art Rooney Memorial Scholarship Fund and Chuck Noll Foundation.

The in-person event will bring participants back to a start line at Heinz Field Press Gate entrance on North Shore Drive, and participants will cross the finish line inside of Heinz Field. This year’s event will also host a Kids Fun Run so the entire family can get involved.

All participants, both in-person and virtual, will receive a race shirt, finisher’s medal and goodie bag. Registrants will also be entered for chances to win prizes from the time they register to event day, including items autographed by Steelers players.

Last year, participants were from 48 states and 15 countries, representing Steelers Nation from all around the globe.

“Steelers Nation truly represented last year with participation from all over,” said Lynne Molyneaux, Alumni Relations Manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers. “It was incredible to see participation from 15 countries, and as excited as we are to bring participants back to a start line at Heinz Field this year, we are equally as excited to see more of Steelers Nation join in from around the world again.”

The event will continue to benefit the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund, which annually provides a grant to a North Catholic High School student and funds the Pittsburgh Promise scholarships for two North Side students graduating from Pittsburgh high schools, as well as the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research, which supports continued research and education regarding brain injuries and the treatment of sports-related concussions.

For the second year in a row, the Steelers Run and Walk will partner with P3R, the engine behind Pittsburgh’s greatest races including the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, to produce the 2021 event. In addition to presenting partner Gatorade, supporting partners are UPMC Centers for Rehab Services, Giant Eagle and Activbody.

Art Rooney Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Art Rooney Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the late founder of the Steelers, who died in August of 1988 after living most of his life on the North Side. The scholarship annually provides a grant to a North Catholic High School student and funds the Pittsburgh Promise scholarships for two students graduating from Pittsburgh high schools who are residents of the North Side. Since its beginning, the scholarship has awarded grants to 90 local students.

Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research

The Steelers launched the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research in 2016 to support continued research and education regarding brain injuries and treatment of sports-related concussions. The Foundation funds research that it believes is the most promising in the area of sports-related concussions and related conditions. To help best evaluate which research programs to fund, some of the most renowned neurosurgeons in the country serve on a national medical advisory panel.  http://chucknollfoundation.org/
