12th Annual Event Offered by Erie Gymnastic Center and Team Lightning

The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce that the 2014 Stars & Stripes Gymnastics Invitational will be returning to Erie January 10-12th at the Bayfront Convention Center. The event is one of the largest gymnastics meets in the country, attracting more than 1,000 competitors and their families to Erie for three days of USA Gymnastics-sanctioned competition.

This year’s event will include a new men’s competition as well as the popular Main Event, featuring the highest level of men’s and women’s teams and athletes on Saturday night.

Participants range in age from 5 to 18 years of age and will compete to qualification for upcoming State Championships as well as Stars & Stripes individual and team titles in men’s and women’s levels 2 thru 10 and Xcel Levels.

“We are happy to be working with the Erie Sports Commission again this year,” said Meet Director Doug Pershun. “The publicity and coordination from the Erie Sports Commission was fantastic and we want to partner up again at the beautiful Bayfront Convention Center.”

The event is hosted by Erie Gymnastics Center and the Team Lightning Boosters. General admission is $12 for adults and $7 for children. All military, fire, rescue and police are admitted to the event free of charge.

“The ESC is very happy to have the Stars & Stripes Gymnastics competition as an associated event in 2014,” ESC Executive Director Ron Sertz commented. “It is a premier competition that has grown year after year and we expect the event to continue that trend.”

The Erie Sports Commission is committed to promoting the Erie region as a prime destination for sports and recreation.  The major goals of the ESC are to attract, create, support, and host sporting and recreational events that have a positive economic impact on the region, and assist in maximizing the potential of all regional sports facilities and venues.  The ESC strives to enhance the image of Erie by showcasing the community, promote wellness through healthy lifestyles, and improve the quality of life for community members of all ages.
