P3R, the engine behind Pittsburgh’s greatest races, has expanded the FedEx Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge Program to support a record 38 Pittsburgh companies in their year-round efforts to help employees reach their wellness goals. From entry-level employees to CEOs, from avid runners to first-time racers, P3R will keep program participants moving with new opportunities such as the Corporate Challenge Heat presented by FedEx at the 2019 Fleet Feet Liberty Mile

The race will take place on August 9, 2019.

As more and more people adopt a wellness-oriented mindset, employers across the world are seeking ways to improve the health and wellness of their employees, while increasing their engagement with the organization. P3R is committed to helping Pittsburgh companies achieve this goal — one run at a time — while inspiring anyone and everyone to Run with P3R

PNC employee Adam Tucek — a former high school and college track and field athlete — was inspired to start racing again after attending a Corporate Challenge on-site training seminar in April. Not yet ready for a big race at the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events, Tucek and his six-year-old son completed the 2019 Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon — their first official race together. Now, the father-son duo is continuing their race streak and hoping to run their fastest miles at the 2019 Fleet Feet Liberty Mile.

“I was thrilled to learn P3R has a year-round calendar of races of various distances. I’m a fan of middle distances and my son is young, so the shorter and faster races are perfect for us,” said Tucek. “I’m looking forward to racing once again with my son as he tries to run his best mile. Plus, I’ll have the chance to test my speed against other competitive runners.”

Tucek has been training in hopes of running a sub-5:00 mile, while other members of the Corporate Challenge team at PNC likely have different goals. No matter the motivation, the 2019 Fleet Feet Liberty Mile offers the perfect opportunity for these colleagues to celebrate fitness together at the end of the work week. And like Tucek, many will participate in one of the most iconic American races with their families since the one-mile race is fast and fun for all.

"As an industry leader, P3R continues to offer new health and wellness activities and programs for not only our corporate partners but the entire Pittsburgh community,” said Troy Schooley, incoming P3R CEO. “From pros to average Joes, the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile was created for runners of all ages and abilities to experience our dynamic city streets at night the best way we know how — on foot.”

With its 7:00 p.m. start time and fun atmosphere, the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile has more of a block-party vibe than your average race. Whether a participant or spectator, Pittsburghers are invited to enjoy six back-to-back heats for different categories of runners:

  • The One for Fun Heat presented by Fleet Feet Pittsburgh is the mile where participants can simply have fun and enjoy the run.
  • The Kids of Steel Heat presented by PNC is perfect for kids 13 years old or younger who participate in the award-winning Kids of Steel training program.
  • The Pup Trot Heat presented by Humane Animal Rescue is open to all who want to race with man’s best running friend.
  • The Corporate Challenge Heat presented by FedEx allows colleagues who are part of a Corporate Challenge team to accomplish a goal together.
  • The Masters Heat presented by UPMC Health Plan is for competitive milers, age 40 and over, who can run an eight-minute mile or under.
  • The Unstoppable Heat presented by Brooks Running is for competitive milers, ages 14 to 39, who can run a six-minute mile or under.

This race is short and sweet at just one mile, making it the perfect distance for runners and walkers of all speeds. After finishing their heat, participants can stick around and watch some of the nation’s fastest milers run the same route in less than four minutes!
