Fun and Accessible Triathlon Returns to Erie for Second Year

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce that Life’s A Beach Triathlon will return to Erie for the second year on August 15, 2015 at Presque Isle State Park Beach 11. The event follows a traditional triathlon format with non-traditional elements to make it family-friendly and accessible.

The event will begin with a 200-yard “almost anything goes” swim in Lake Erie, during which participants are encouraged to use boogie boards, flippers, pool toys, and foam noodles. Following the swim is a 5-mile fat-tire bike ride, and a 2-mile run that includes fun obstacles. Awards are given to the “Top Dude” and “Top Dudette” overall, top finishers in each age group, “Most Bodacious Bike Decorating”, Coolest Costume, and “Top Slacker” (male and female) overall and in each age group, for those who enjoy the course the longest.

All participants will receive a Life’s a Beach t-shirt, a themed finisher’s award, a new medal in 2015, and a post-race snack and drink at the after party, complete with beach-themed live music.

Registration is open at www.lifesabeachtriathlon.com for $56 per participant, ages 9 and up. A free Hatchling Dash Run will be available for participants under 9 years old at the conclusion of the event.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Erie Sports Commission again to host this event,” said Kip Koelsch, Life’s A Beach Event Director. “We had a lot of fun in our first year in Erie and can’t wait to see even more of the Erie community come out for this fun event.”

“We are very excited to have Life’s A Beach Triathlon back in Erie for the second year,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “This fun, laid-back event is entertaining and enjoyable for everyone involved and we hope to see even more participants this year.”
