Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania to Host Event at Presque Isle for the Second Year

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the Lake Erie Duathlon will take place at Presque Isle State Park on Sunday, August 7, 2016. The event will once again be hosted by and benefit Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA).

The Duathlon consists of a 5K run, followed by a 20K bike ride, then another 5K run. All events start and finish at the Presque Isle State Park Beach 11 parking lot. The bike portion of the race will be one entire loop of the park, and each 5K will be a different loop.

Athletes may compete as individuals or as two-person relays, to include one runner and one cyclist. The overall female and male winners, and first place winners in each age group will receive a $50 gift certificate to DICK’S Sporting Goods.

All proceeds of the race benefit Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania.

GSWPA brought the Duathlon back to Erie after a two-year hiatus, hosting the event for the first time in 2015.

“We are excited to once again be a part of this event, which has become an Erie staple,” said Ron Sertz, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Erie has the perfect venue for such an event in Presque Isle State Park, and I am certain that GSWPA will make this a great annual event.”

Registration is open now through event day. For more information, and to sign up, visit www.lakeerieduathlon.org.
