Erie’s Only Invitational Fishing Tournament returns to Presque Isle State Park

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the second annual Great Lakes Tackle (GLT) Summer Invitational will be held August 23-24th at Presque Isle State Park and the Bayfront Convention Center. The event is limited to the first 40 registered teams, consisting of three to five anglers each.

Anglers will target walleye, steelhead trout, brown trout and lake trout. A fish is awarded value based on its weight plus 10 points, with the exception of lake trout, which are valued based on weight only. The Bayfront Convention Center will once again host weigh-ins at the end of each day of competition with each team announced on stage.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to charity. In the inaugural event last year, event organizers fulfilled donations valued at $4,000 to Life Building Ministries in Cochranton.

“We are excited about the second year of this invitational tournament,” said Pete Alex, owner of the Great Lakes Tackle Shop and tournament director. “We made some improvements from last year that I think will help make the most exciting fishing tournament on Lake Erie even better this year.”

“We are looking forward to working with Pete and his group for a second straight year,” said Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Ron Sertz. “The event made great strides in its first year as it showcased some of the best anglers from the region and attracted fans of the sport to Presque Isle State Park and the Bayfront Convention Center.”
