rigid temperatures are setting the stage as Erie welcomes ice fishing enthusiasts this Saturday for the Flagship Ice Open.

The Flagship Ice Open, hosted by the Western PA Team Bass Series and Western PA Hardwater, will take place at Misery Bay, providing anglers with a chance to spend the day on the ice.

“The Flagship Ice Open continues to grow each year and seeing 101 teams compete last year was an incredible milestone,” said Billy Hines, tournament director. “It’s an event that brings the ice fishing community together, and we are looking forward to another great turnout.”

Tournament directors anticipate approximately 100 teams will register this year. Registration starts at 5:30 a.m. in the Misery Bay parking lot. The tournament will run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., with weigh-ins taking place at the conclusion of the competition.

Teams may consist of one or two anglers, and each team is permitted an eight-fish limit, including any combination of crappie, perch and bluegill/panfish.

“Cold temperatures in Erie create ideal conditions for winter sports,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director for the Erie Sports Commission. “Erie is a true four-season destination, making it an ideal location for year-round sports and events such as the Flagship Ice Open.”
