The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the return of The Battle of Lake Erie, a girls fast pitch softball tournament, June 24-26, 2016. The tournament will be held at Walnut Creek Complex in Millcreek and the Pleasant Ridge Park Complex in Fairview, and will host 50 teams from western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.

Tournament directors anticipate more than 2,000 people will be in attendance for the tournament.

The tournament is open to teams in age groups from 10 and Under through 18 and Under, with a special 8 and Under Coach Pitch Tournament on Saturday, June 25. The 10U through 18U divisions will play pool games on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, with bracket play to follow on Sunday, June 26.

The tournament offers a four game guarantee and three pool games into a single elimination bracket for 10U through 18U divisions. Registration for those teams is $400 per team. Teams in the 8U division will see a three game guarantee in a one-day tournament, and cost per team is $150.

All participating teams must be Amateur Softball Association (ASA) sanctioned upon arrival.

“Softball is huge in northwestern Pennsylvania, and we expect our tournament to bring all of the best teams in the tri-state region together for a highly competitive tournament,” said Chris Fortin, Erie Frost Vice-President. “With the help of the Erie Sports Commission, I know we can grow this event to become a staple on Erie’s sports calendar.”

“The Erie Frost are the perfect example of a great local club that is driving sports tourism through their annual tournament,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “I am thrilled that they asked us to get involved, and I’m looking forward to seeing the tournament’s continued growth.”
