The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce that The Edinboro Triathlon will return to mark its 32nd year on Saturday, June 8, 2019. The popular local event returns after taking a one-year hiatus.

The event, which is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, will offer four races: an individual Olympic triathlon (.93 mile swim, 24.6 mile bike and 6.2 mile run), individual Olympic aquabike (.93 mile swim and 24.6 mile bike), individual sprint triathlon (.3 mile swim, 11.2 mile bike and 3.1 mile run) and a sprint triathlon relay (.3 mile swim, 11.2 mile bike and 3.1 mile run, can be completed by two or three individuals).

All events will start and finish at Pat Crawford Beach along Edinboro Lake, with packet pick-up to be held pre-race on Friday, June 7 at the County YMCA, and race day at Billings Park in Edinboro.

“The Edinboro Triathlon has been embraced by the community for more than 30 years, and Josh and I feel incredibly lucky to play a role in its return,” said Lauren (Morosky) Eckendorf, race director. “With the addition of the Aquabike competition in 2019, as well as the relay, sprint and Olympic triathlon divisions, this event will have an option for everyone. We’re so excited to be working with the Erie Sports Commission to help bring the event back and make it better than ever.”

Registration for all events is open now, and is limited to the first 300 participants. Registration is available online only, and will remain open through Wednesday, June 5.

“With such an established history in the community, we were happy to hear that the Edinboro Triathlon was returning in 2019, and thrilled to be asked to help,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Through this new partnership, we hope to help bring new life to this classic event and expose more out-of-town competitors to such a spectacular race and region.”

Race packets will include a long-sleeved t-shirt, a wave-specific swim cap, bike numbers, Road iD bib number, Endurance Tap gel, a blueseventy ET timing chip strap and more.

The 2019 event will benefit the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, Edinboro University Tri Club and Edinboro University Swim Team.
