The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce The Edinboro Triathlon will return for its 34th year Saturday, June 4. Presented by PNC Bank, the popular ET2022 event will kick off from Pat Crawford Beach along Edinboro Lake.

The event, which is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, offers three races: an individual sprint triathlon (750-yard swim, 11.2-mile bike and 3.1-mile run), an individual sprint aquabike (750-yard swim and 11.2-mile bike) and a 2-3-person sprint triathlon relay (750-yard swim, 11.2-mile bike and 3.1-mile run).

We are excited to host this event again in 2022 and are thankful to PNC Bank and our other sponsors for continuing to support us again this year,” said Lauren Eckendorf, race director. “We aim to improve the event each year and are grateful for the input from our athlete and safety teams that helps us do so. We’re proud to host an event that has something for competitors of every skill level.”

With the support of PNC Bank, the Edinboro Triathlon returned in full force in 2021, selling out each of their races.

“As a Main Street bank, PNC is pleased to support events like the Edinboro Triathlon that celebrate community, bring families together and promote health and wellness in our region,” said Jim Stevenson, PNC regional president for Northwestern Pennsylvania. “We are proud to sponsor this event so that even more of our neighbors can swim, bike and run with PNC.”

Among those returning to compete in the Edinboro Triathlon’s Individual Sprint Triathlon discipline this year is Phil Friedman, who went on to win USA Triathlon’s Age Group Nationals for the 65–69-year-old age group.

“My very first triathlon was the Edinboro Triathlon in 2001,” said Friedman. “Since then, I have raced around the world but still consider Edinboro my home race. Racing with my Erie Triathlon Club friends at the Edinboro Triathlon is the very best.”

Proceeds from the event will primarily benefit the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department and other local non-profits whose collaboration make the continuation of The Edinboro Triathlon possible.
