Four Events Planned for the Spring/Summer Season

The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce that the Clarion Lake Erie Hotel and Bel-Aire Conference Center Shoot the Rock Spring/Summer Basketball Series has scheduled four events at Family First Sports Park in 2014.

The first three events of the four-event series – the Clarion Hotel “Shoot the Rock” Tip-off Tournament (April 4-6), the Clarion Hotel “Shoot the Rock” Spring Classic Basketball Tournament (May 9-11) and the Clarion Hotel “Shoot the Rock” Summer Jam Basketball Tournament (May 30-June 1) – will serve as qualifiers for the adidas® Junior Nationals “Best of the Best” Basketball Tournament being played June 13-15 in Cleveland, Ohio. The series concludes with the Clarion Hotel Summer Showcase taking place July 11-13. This tournament is in the process of approval as an NCAA certified event.

Each tournament is expected to attract between 70-100 teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, District of Columbia, Ohio and Canada with more than 10,000 visitors coming to the Erie area through the course of the series.

Series organizer Cory Coleman, the Executive Director and CEO of Keystone Hoops Group LLC, is excited for the events and what it means for those involved. “This series of basketball tournaments is not only great for summer basketball, but also the Erie area. In these showcases we’ll see top-notch competition through various age groups in an exciting format that will challenge the players and entertain basketball fans of all ages.”

“This is a great addition to Erie’s sporting calendar that will bring four more high-level basketball events to the area,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Cory has a long history of putting together exceptional events and we are happy to support his efforts to create a series that will continue to grow.”
