The Shamrock Half Marathon Run Fest, presented by Toyota, has announced the launch of SheRock, a new initiative aimed at empowering girls in running.
Ahead of its 47th edition on March 16, 2025, the Portland, OR, race is partnering with three local nonprofits – SHE FLIES, Girls on the Run, and Wildwood Running – to support young female athletes in the region.
As part of the initiative, a portion of every registration fee will be contributed to the SheRock program, with the goal of promoting both physical and mental well-being among girls. Each year, the Shamrock Run Fest sees around 2,000 runners under the age of 18 take part, and SheRock aims to ensure they have access to supportive programs that encourage their development.
Alex Jee, Community Manager for the Shamrock Run Fest, said “Portland, Oregon has one of the best running communities, and we’re excited to launch SheRock to empower and support girls in the sport. By working with these amazing local organizations, we’re helping girls in our community grow as athletes and individuals.”
The SheRock initiative will benefit the following Portland-based nonprofits:
- SHE FLIES: Focused on connecting girls and women to sports in Oregon, SHE FLIES builds inclusive communities through its various programs and partnerships.
- Girls on the Run: A program designed to inspire girls through an experience-based curriculum that integrates running.
- Wildwood Running: Offering clinics, workshops, and camps, Wildwood Running supports young female athletes through education and empowerment.
“These organizations are making a real difference by supporting girls’ health and well-being through sport,” added Alex Jee. “With SheRock, we’re joining forces to amplify their impact on the next generation of Portland runners.”
SheRock encourages donations during registration for the Shamrock Run Fest, with all contributions equally distributed among the three partner organizations. The initiative seeks to inspire more girls to get involved in running and other physical activities, while fostering a sense of community and self-confidence.
“The Shamrock Run Fest is about more than just racing – it’s about celebrating Portland’s spirit and making a positive difference,” said Jee.
“By supporting SheRock, you’re helping to shape the future of our running community. We’re excited to see these programs continue to thrive and create spaces where girls can learn, grow, and succeed.”
The Shamrock Run Fest will feature a number of races, including the Shamrock Showdown 8K, the half marathon, and the new Terwilliger Challenge, a course that highlights one of Portland’s main climb. The event weekend will culminate in a post-race finish line festival, held in collaboration with the Kells Portland Irish Festival, offering music, food, and entertainment for runners and spectators alike.
Registration for the 2025 Shamrock Run Fest is open now, with participants able to donate to the SheRock initiative during sign-up.
