USA Triathlon and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission today announced that University Hospitals will serve as the Official Medical Services Provider of the 2018 and 2019 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships, both of which will be held in Cleveland.

The 2018 event is set for Aug. 11-12, with both Olympic and sprint-distance races taking place at Edgewater Beach Park and the surrounding neighborhoods of downtown Cleveland. The last time that Age Group Nationals, USA Triathlon’s largest and longest-running National Championship event, was held in Cleveland was in 1992.

“At all USA Triathlon National Championships, the health and safety of the athletes is our No. 1 priority — and we actively seek out the best possible medical care to provide on race day,” said Brian D’Amico, USA Triathlon Director of Events. “We have complete confidence in University Hospitals’ world-class team of sports medicine physicians and emergency medical professionals, and are proud to offer their services to the nation’s top age-group athletes as they chase national titles in 2018 and 2019.”

“University Hospitals Sports Medicine is proud to serve as the medical partner of the USA Triathlon events in Cleveland,” said James Voos, MD, Division Chief, Sports Medicine, UH Cleveland Medical Center. “Our medical team is prepared to provide the safest race day environment possible for these talented athletes.”

“We could not be more excited as both an event partner and a community member to have USA Triathlon host a world-class event such as their Age Group National Championships in Northeast Ohio,” said David Gilbert, President and CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. “Our confidence in University Hospitals to provide excellent care to the athletes competing in Cleveland is unwavering, and we’re proud to host USA Triathlon in 2018 and 2019.”
