The Queen City Cup, a USA Fencing sanctioned youth fencing tournament, will take place at Liberty Center in Liberty Township on February 22nd and 23rd. The event will feature all three fencing disciplines, foil, epee, and saber and is hosted in partnership with the Queen City Fencers Club, Liberty Center, and Travel Butler County.
Athletes from around the Midwest will compete for the first time in Butler County with over 90% of the event participants expected to travel in from outside the Cincinnati & Dayton region. The influx of fencers and their supporters is anticipated to generate an estimated $550,000 as visitors will enjoy dining out, shopping, attractions, and recharging at local hotels.
The Queen City Cup participants range from ages 6-16 and all are vying for USA Fencing National Qualifying Points, and an opportunity to advance to the 2025 National Championship. Local spectators are welcome to experience the excitement of fencing firsthand, with matches taking place throughout the weekend inside The Foundry and Sabin Hall at Liberty Center.
“We’re excited to partner with Liberty Center and Travel Butler County to share fencing with a wider audience,” said Alex Burte, Owner and Head Coach of Queen City Fencers Club. “Olympic fencing is thriving in the Cincinnati region, and we have competitors traveling from all over the Midwest for the Queen City Cup in an effort to earn a place at the U.S. Nationals. Liberty Center is the perfect venue to make fencing a spectator sport. We want to share our love for fencing with the greater Cincinnati area and bring attention to the opportunities it can provide in competition, travel, and college recruitment.”
“We are thrilled to bring the Queen City Cup to Liberty Township and Liberty Center this weekend,” said Kathryn Rawlinson, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Travel Butler County. “Hosting a USA Fencing sanctioned event further reinforces Butler County’s reputation as a premier sports destination. We wish all the fencers the best of luck this weekend, and hope they enjoy their stay with so many incredible amenities just steps from the competition.”
