Butler County to Host Ultimate Event in September

Visitors Bureau Announces USA Ultimate, CUPA Partnership

The Butler County Visitors Bureau (BCVB), USA Ultimate, and the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association (CUPA) have partnered to bring the USA Ultimate Great Lakes Regional Tournament to West Chester, September 20-21, 2014.

Featuring thirty-two teams from around the Midwest, athletes will compete over two days at the Voice of America Athletic Complex. The event is expected to draw over 1,000 participants and spectators and pump more than $800,000 into the local economy.

The BCVB has been working with CUPA to bring an Ultimate Frisbee event to the area for several years. Initial discussions with USA Ultimate started at the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Sports Symposium in 2012. Since that time, the BCVB teamed up with CUPA to submit a proposal for the championship earlier this year. The USA Ultimate team made a local visit to scout the community and venue in March. After a lengthy selection process, Butler County was chosen over other destinations and was awarded the event in late May.

“CUPA is proud to help bring the Great Lakes Regional Tournament to West Chester,” said Dale Wilker, Tournament Director for CUPA. “The BCVB has been a great resource and partner. We are excited to continue to work together and look forward to hosting a great event in September.”

The Ultimate Frisbee tournament adds another event to Butler County’s impressive line-up of recently hosted sports championships. In 2013, the BCVB welcomed 41 events including 7 national championships to Butler County.

“We’re excited to welcome the USA Ultimate Great Lakes Regional Championship to Butler County,” said Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of the BCVB. “We look forward to many years of successful partnership between our organizations.”
