Four of the top table tennis players in the United States will be competing for $3000 at the 2020 Butterfly Primerica Sandhills Open on August 14-16:

  • Top seed Sharon Alguetti and his brother Adar Alguetti from Tenafly, New Jersey are USA Male National Team Members and have competed in international events.
  • Yinka Olasoji is a table tennis coach from Duluth, Georgia and has competed in many tournaments both in the US and internationally.
  • Hammed-Taiwo Adeyinka comes to us from Lagos, Nigeria and has competed in tournaments worldwide as well.

More than 70 players from along the east coast and midwest are scheduled to compete.

The tournament is sanctioned by the United States Association of Table Tennis (USATT). Every player is ranked by the USATT and their rankings are adjusted based on their results.

The tournament will be held at Freedom Courts Sportsplex in Fayetteville.  Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no spectators will be allowed; however, several tables will be live-streamed all day on Carolina Pong’s YouTube page.  Following the event, tables used in the competition will be for sale at steeply discounted prices.

“This two-star event is the first step in hosting a USATT four-star event in Fayetteville in 2021,” says Amy Karpinski, President of the Cape Fear Table Tennis Club (CFTTC) in Fayetteville.  “In 2021, we expect 200+ players from around the country.  We are grateful to the Fayetteville community and our sponsors for their support of our club and the opportunity to bring professional level table tennis competitions to Cumberland County.”
