Top high school cross country runners from more than fourteen states will compete in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships South Regional on Nov. 30 in hopes of becoming a National Finalist.
Entering its 45th year, the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship is the longest running cross country race in the nation, comprised of four regional 5K races across the country. The Northeast (Boston, Mass.) and Midwest (Kenosha, Wis.) regional races will also be held on Nov. 30. The West Regional (Walnut, Calif.) race will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7. More than 10,000 of the nation’s leading high school runners are expected to compete in the regional meets.
Iconic McAlpine Park hosts the Foot Locker Cross Country South Regional Championships. Legendary runners such as Alan Webb, Reuben Reina, Bobby Curtis, Aurora Scott, Erin Keough and Jennifer (Barringer) Simpson competed on this same course at this very event.
The top ten finishers from each Championship regional race qualify for the Foot Locker Cross Country National Finals (Dec. 14 in San Diego) and will join the likes of Olympians Cole Hocker, Grant Fisher, Molly Seidel, Matt Centrowitz and Meb Keflezighi.
The South Region, consisting of athletes from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands and U.S. citizens in Overseas Military Installations, will race along the 5,000-meter mixed terrain course.
