USA Badminton, the National Governing Body of the Olympic sport of Badminton in the United States, has announced that the 2022 USA Badminton Collegiate National Championships will be held at Triangle Badminton & Table Tennis in Morrisville, NC, Friday, March 25 to Sunday, March 27, 2022.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to host USA Badminton’s Collegiate National Championships,“ said Jason Niu, owner of Triangle Badminton & Table Tennis. “This is a very prestigious event featuring the best college badminton players in the country. We are honored to host the event at our venue, and our staff and volunteers look forward to providing the athletes with the best possible participant experience.”

The 2022 USA Badminton Collegiate National Championships will consist of individual competition in Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Importantly, the event will also serve as the Selection Event for the USA Collegiate National Team to compete in the 2022 World University Games in Chengdu, China, June 26 to July 7, 2022.

“We are looking forward to staging our top collegiate event in North Carolina at Triangle Badminton & Table Tennis,” said Linda French, USA Badminton CEO. “We chose the location carefully and look forward to holding more prestigious events at this venue. We are mindful that North Carolina is in the final phase of a bid to land the 2027 World University Games and these championships can help support that initiative.”

USA Badminton intends to select a team to compete in Chengdu consisting of 6 women and 6 men. The governing body expects the winners of each event to be selected for the World University Games team. The winning pair in Mixed Doubles will be selected as a team. Runners up in singles and doubles will also be selected for the team. If an athlete qualifies in more than one event, then additional athlete(s) will be selected to fill the team roster.

“It’s fantastic to see North Carolina’s World University Games bid already paying dividends for the region,” said Hill Carrow, Chairman & CEO of North Carolina’s Bid Committee for the World University Games. “We cannot thank Linda French and the leadership of USA Badminton enough for choosing the Triangle for a Championship event that also promotes our efforts to land the world’s top event for collegiate athletes. We look forward to working with USAB and TBTT to host the best possible Collegiate Nationals where our 2022 U.S. World University Games Badminton Team will be announced.”

The Summer World University Games are the largest event for student athletes on the planet and second in size only to the Olympic Games in terms of global Olympic multi-sport competitions. The 2022 World University Games in Chengdu will feature more than 7,000 athletes competing in 18 sports over a 12-day period. The Games were originally scheduled to be held in 2021 but were postponed to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. North Carolina’s Bid to host the 2027 World University Games is centered in the Triangle and Greensboro and is competing against a region around the city of Daejeon in central South Korea. FISU, the International Governing Body for the World University Games is expected to choose the winner of the 2027 World University Games in early October of this year.
