U.S. Open Set to Begin In New York on May 27

U.S. National Squad and Swimmers from 11 Other Countries to Compete

Elite synchronized swimmers from 12 countries will compete for numerous titles at the U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships in Long Island, N.Y., starting May 27.

Swimmers at the U.S. Open, which runs from May 27-30, will compete for titles in solo, duet, team, combo and figures in junior and senior divisions at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.

U.S. national squad members who were recently named to the team that will take part in the Pan Am Games (Toronto, July 10-26) also will compete at the U.S. Open. They are: Anita Alvarez, Claire Barton, Phoebe Coffin, Mary Killman, Mariya Koroleva, Isabel Malcolmson, Sandra Ortellado, Sarah Rodriguez, Karensa Tjoa and Alison Williams. Killman and Koroleva competed in duet at the 2012 Olympic Games, and Koroleva and Williams recently teamed up to win silver in duet at the China Open.

Club teams from the United States will compete against teams and select swimmers from other countries including Aruba, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Finland, Mexico, Peru, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.

 A gala featuring exhibitions from some of the competitors will take place Saturday, May 30, from 6-7 p.m. following finals.

Tickets are $10 per day or $35 for an event pass.
