One-Day Benefit to Raise Funds, Awareness for MMRF

Take the steps for more exercise? How about run like King Kong in the ultimate uphill race: 86 stories to the top of the world's most famous skyscraper? The brainchild of Fred Lebow, the Empire State Building Run-Up has been on the NYRR annual calendar since 1978. The fastest runners climb the 1,576 steps in about 10 minutes. This year’s event will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2014 starting at 8:00 p.m

Groups of runners will start from the lobby in a time-trial format from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Runners will be informed of their show-up and start times prior to race day.

A limited number of guaranteed entry spots are also available through the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and NYRR’s Team for Kids. Follow the links below for information on guaranteeing your entry by pledging to raise money for one of these two great causes.  Visit MMRF PowerTeam or email GreatRaces@themmrf.org for more information.

Team for Kids supports NYRR’s free or low-cost school- and community center–based health and fitness programs for children who would otherwise have little to no access to regular physical activity. Learn more and apply for guaranteed entry through Team for Kids here.

The race begins in the lobby of the Empire State Building (Fifth Avenue between 33rd and 34th streets). Runners climb 1,576 steps (86 floors) to the observation deck, nearly a quarter-mile above Fifth Avenue. Entry fees are $125.
