New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that “runs” New York City producing 60 annual adult and youth races and providing free year-round youth and community programs, today announced a collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum to produce the Memorial & Museum’s 2026 race, presented by RXR and taking place Saturday, July 11, in Central Park.

Held each year as an opportunity for remembrance and reflection, this year’s race will take place as the nation commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in September. All funds raised from the event will directly support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, keeping the memorial free for all and expanding the museum’s educational programs that reach students, teachers, professionals, and communities across the country.

“New York Road Runners is honored to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in hosting this powerful and meaningful event as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of New York Road Runners. “As the nonprofit that ‘runs’ New York City, we believe in the power of running to bring people together, and this race provides an opportunity for our community to reflect and remember those impacted by 9/11 while celebrating the resilience that defines our city.”

Approximately 5,000 runners are expected to participate in the four-mile race, coming together to honor the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks and recognizing the courage and resilience that followed.

Participants will begin the day with an opening program featuring remarks recognizing the enduring impact of 9/11 and paying tribute to the lives lost. Through the collective act of running, the event will unite individuals of all backgrounds in remembrance and shared purpose.

“Each year, this race brings together thousands of runners and spectators united by a shared commitment to remember 9/11,” said Beth Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. “As we approach the historic 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we’re reaching out to the more than 100 million Americans who are too young to remember that day and asking them to join our mission of commemoration, education, and inspiration.”

Registration will open on May 5 for New York Road Runners Member Plus and above levels and May 7 for the general public at nyrr.org/911memorialandmuseum. Participants can take part in person or support the event through fundraising and donations.
