AAKD also celebrates the National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network, a nationwide group of more than 250 nonprofit youth development organizations that provide free or low-cost tennis programs, academic support and life-skills training to thousands of kids each year. Founded more than 50 years ago by Ashe, along with Charlie Passarell and Sheridan Snyder, the NJTL is now a cornerstone of the USTA Foundation, the national charitable arm of the USTA that utilizes the powerful combination of tennis and education to enhance the lives of thousands of under-resourced youth.
AAKD marks the culmination of US Open Fan Week, which begins Monday, Aug. 18 and runs through Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, during which the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center are free and open to the public.
