Albany Capital Center Announces New Flooring for Added Versatility

New York’s Albany Capital Center (“the ACC” for short) has diversified its hosting abilities to include basketball and volleyball tournaments. However, instead of purchasing new flooring, or going with a synthetic system, the ACC chose to purchase the wood floor that had been used at the 2018 NBA All-Star game and fan festival held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The wood flooring was then sanded down and painted and converted into three separate floors for the Albany Capital Center.

And, says ACC staff, in just two years, the courts have already paid for themselves, which is ahead of the predicted timeline. When originally purchased, the staff was anticipating perhaps two weekends of basketball. That has now grown to five weekends of basketball and one weekend of volleyball.

Tournaments include the GymRat CHALLENGE, the single largest Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) tournament in the Northeast, Zero Gravity basketball tournament, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament and The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Boys Volleyball Championships.

The courts, ACC says, have proven to be a positive and strategic purchasing decision, filling key weekends generally not used by large conferences or conventions. (Examples include holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, Father’s Day and Fourth of July).
