Cyclo-Cross World Cup Coming to Vegas in September

CrossVegas Voted Best Event of the 2015-2016 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup

The 2016-2017 Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup will comprise nine rounds, up from seven last year. CrossVegas will again kick off the season in Las Vegas on Wednesday evening September 21, 2016 and will include World Cup racing events for Women Elite, Men Elite, as well as a USA Cycling category race and the ever-popular Wheelers & Dealers Industry race. 

CrossVegas is held annually in Las Vegas at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex.  The race takes place “under the stars” following the first day of the Interbike show.  2016 will mark the tenth year of the race which attracts 12,000 fans.

Watts Marketing, organizers of World Cup CrossVegas announced that the event received the Best Event of the 2015-2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Season from the International Cycling Union (UCI).

According to the UCI release, “the opening round of the 2015-2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup went down in history as being the first round of the international series ever to be held outside of Europe. The race course, organization and overall atmosphere of enthusiasm and fair play all contributed to CrossVegas earning the vote of best event of the 2015-2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup.”

Brook Watts, head of the CrossVegas Organizing Committee received the trophy from UCI Deputy Sports Director and Head of Off-Road Peter Van den Abeele during an organizers’ seminar held at the UCI headquarters in Aigle, Switzerland, on Friday.

Watts stated, “the award is testimony to the hard work of many people to bring a World Cup to the USA, most of all a dedicated staff and wonderful sponsors.”

Racers from 20 nations competed in 2015. Competitors included the world’s top-ranked men and women as well as multiple national and UCI world champions. Winners in 2015 were Katerina Nash (Luna) of the Czech Republic and Wout Van Aert (Crelan-Vastgoedservice) of Belgium. Van Aert went on to win the overall World Cup Series title as well as the World Championship.
