The City of Cape Girardeau and their Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce the opening of their new 121,000 sq. ft. premier indoor municipal sports venue on Saturday, May 6th 11am – 2pm (ribbon cutting ceremony and fun event/facility activities) located off of Interstate 55 at exit 96 and State Hwy 61 in Cape Girardeau Missouri.

The 12 million dollar facility is the largest of its kind between St. Louis and Memphis and is expected to draw events from a five state region including Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee and Missouri. The venue is funded through the local Restaurant tax which is designed to help drive economic business to the region through tourism related events.

The Design/Build project developed through a city initiated feasibility study was led by Midamerica Corp. and Penzel Construction out of Jackson Missouri with Grey Design group of St. Louis as the Architect.

The 10.27 acres parcel of land was donated by Midamerica Corp as part of the proposal and is adjacent to a larger parcel which lies conveniently between the cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson in southeast Missouri.

The state of the art facility has 6 hardwood basketball courts convertible to 12 volleyball courts all with retractable goals and zoned audio with ample spectator seating. In addition there are two artificial multipurpose turf fields which can accommodate a variety of sports with four drop down nets for hitting/pitching also with zoned audio.

The facility is technology friendly with free wi-fi throughout, has a full service grille, conference, meeting rooms, staff offices and parking for over 500 vehicles. In partnership with VisitCape, the Cape SportsPlex has already booked over 30 events for 2017.
