Rah-rah! Go! The Mankato Marathon, to be held October 19 and 20 in Mankato, Minnesota, is looking for cheerleaders. The job of the Cheer Teams will be to inspire marathon runners, pump them up along the route and encourage them to get to the finish line

The Mankato Marathon Cheer Teams are ramping up for 2013. Last year the race boasted 14 Cheer Zones to motivate runners through the marathon course. This year the Mankato Marathon has a goal of obtaining 17 Cheer Teams to be dispersed along the marathon course.

Any organization interested in being a Cheer Team for the 2013 Mankato Marathon should contact Maureen Waltman, Marathon Coordinator for the Mankato Marathon at mwaltman@visitmankatomn.com or  507.385.6660.

“It makes such a big difference for the moral of runners to have people cheering along the course,” said Waltman, a 20-time marathoner. “Sometimes those encouraging words are what makes the difference between finishing a tough race or not.”

The job of the Cheer Teams will be to inspire marathon runners, pump them up along the route and encourage them to get to the finish line.

Cheer Teams should be fun and creative. They are encouraged to use music, costumes, etc… to get the runners excited. The Cheer Team that stands out the most will win a pizza party at Jake’s Stadium Pizza in Mankato. Following the races, runners will have a chance to vote for the best team.
