Manitoba Scotties to be Held in Winkler Centennial Arena

CurlManitoba Executive Director Craig Baker has announced that an ‘agreement in principle’ has been reached with the Winkler Curling Club for the staging of the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto.

Pending finalization of contract details, the provincial Women’s championship will be played in the Manitoba-based Winkler Centennial Arena January 21-25, 2015.

Baker noted that a positive technical inspection of the arena by CurlManitoba Ice Technician Greg Ewasko has been successfully completed and positive meetings with Winkler Curling Club officials have also taken place.

Winkler has identified the key personnel who will be involved in the host committee however with the local focus right now on the implementation of the Morden-Stanley-Winkler joint Manitoba Winter Games effort, committee chairs have not yet be identified.

“The Winkler Curling Club is excited to have the opportunity to host the 2015 championship. It is a busy time in our community with the Winter Games approaching but when the opportunity came up, it was too good to pass up,” said Winkler Curling Club President Brent Haney.

“The 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto will be the first arena curling championship hosted in Winkler. However the level of organization we’ve seen on the Winter Games and past successes with arena curling events in both Morden and Altona provide an assurance the Pembina Valley will be there to support the event,” Baker said.
