KidSport Winnipeg and Desiree Scott, 2016 & 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Pro Soccer Player with Kansas City FC and member of the Canadian Women's National Team announced the third annual KidSport soccer camp taking place on Saturday October 29 and Sunday October 30, 2016 at the Axworthy Health & RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg.

“We are back for the third year running and coming home and doing this event is something I truly look forward to,” said Scott. “It gives me the opportunity to work hands on in the community with kids who are so excited about our Women's Team and allows me to share the success and the medals that I’m so proud to bring back home to Winnipeg. I want all the participants to have an absolute blast while getting to experience a fun day of high performance training," said Scott. “Teaming up with KidSport Winnipeg and giving back is so very important to me and I look forward to seeing not only the new faces, but the returning ones as well! It’s going to be fun!"

Scott, along with some of Manitoba's top players and coaches will take kids through soccer specific speed and agility training, fundamental drills and ball familiarity exercises. Along with the technical side of the game, the camp is also about having as much fun as possible while learning other important skills such as teamwork, leadership, dedication, self-confidence and how hard work pays off.

The camp is for girls aged 8-18 years old. Registration is open to the public.

Community-sponsored girls who have been funded by KidSport Winnipeg to play soccer in 2016 will also be in attendance.

"Watching Desiree and her teammates compete in Rio was thrilling and this camp is a tremendous opportunity for girls to learn from Winnipeg's own two-time Olympic bronze medalist,” said the chair of KidSport Winnipeg, Matt Erhard. “Desiree's commitment to our community is inspiring; she is an amazing leader and sets a great example for kids by showing them what hard work, enthusiasm and dedication can achieve. We are so proud to partner with her in giving more kids the chance to get off the sidelines and into sport!”
