Announcement Made by Maine Sports Commission

The Maine Sports Commission is pleased to announce that USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of Ultimate, has selected South Portland as the location of the 2014 High School Northeastern Championships.

The 2014 High School Northeastern Regional Championships will take place at the Wainwright Recreation Complex in the city of South Portland, Maine on May 10-11. The Northeasterns will be hosted by Maine Ultimate, the Maine Sports Commission and the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau. The USA Ultimate HS Northeastern Regional Championships will host up to 32 of the best teams from all over the Northeast and more than 350 players from two divisions, Open and Girls.

Ultimate combines the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football. A game of Ultimate is played by two teams with a flying disc or Frisbee on a field with end zones, similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone.
