On February 12, a premier girl's futsal team from the Queensland Girls Futsal Academy in Australia will travel over 8,000 miles to compete in the 2014 US Youth Futsal Nationals tournament. A unique form of indoor soccer, the four day futsal tournament will take place at the New Century Fieldhouse in Gardner, Kansas and will attract an additional 123 teams, ages 8 to 18 from over 20 states.

Presented by United States Youth Futsal (USYF), the tournament is now in its eighth year and continues to remain the largest national youth futsal tournament in the United States.

"This Australian team is the first overseas team to play in the USYF Nationals tournament," says John Sciore, director of development for USYF. "Our entire local futsal community is thrilled to host them and for the new level of competition and experience they will bring to the field."

In addition to competing, the players have made plans to explore the Kansas City region by visiting various attractions and college campuses including Johnson County Community College.

"The Queensland Girls Futsal Academy began in 2012 after increased demand from players and parents of talented female players to have an opportunity to train for futsal all year round. We are very excited to be part of the tournament," said coach Mary Iskander.
