The Relay Invitational Championship will make its return at the 2025 HYROX World Championships in Chicago, USA, with national teams vying for the top spot.
At this year’s HYROX World Championships, taking place at Chicago Navy Pier on June 12-15, 2025, the invitational event, which debuted at the 2024 Nice World Championships, will see 20 teams compete.
The top 15 participating nations from the 2024/2025 HYROX season will be invited to send teams, with the remaining five teams selected as ‘wildcards’. National captains will be chosen based on their current HYROX rankings and leadership position within their national athlete community.
At the 2024 debut in Nice, Team England, led by Michael Sandbach and Kate Davey, claimed victory with a time of 50:35. Team USA, featuring world champions Lauren Weeks, Megan Jacoby, and Hunter McIntyre, finished second in 50:55 after a thrilling sprint on the wallballs. Team Germany, with Linda Meier, Viola Oberländer, Tobias Lautwein, and Dominic Molzahn, secured third place in 51:08.
The 2025 Relay Invitational will be livestreamed with commentary, and Team England will defend their title this June. Coverage will begin at 18:20 CDT on Friday, June 13, 2025, with the race scheduled to start at 19:00.
HYROX adds that… ‘The Relay Invitational is known for its electrifying pace, as athletes race at full intensity across two non-consecutive sprints, each involving a 1km run and two stations. Unlike regular relays, the Elite Relay requires athletes to follow a predetermined sequence, which must be submitted before the race.’
Mat Lock, HYROX Technical Director for Elite Racing, said “The Relay Invitational is HYROX at full throttle – fast, furious, and fearless. It’s a showcase of national pride and elite athleticism, and we’re thrilled to bring it back to the World Championship stage.”
