Who knew “Mr. Lincoln’s Hometown” would earn a reputation as the ideal spot for auto shows of all types and sizes? The city offers a combination of historic charm, a central and easily-accessible location, and a local community that is passionate about ensuring an outstanding experience for rallies, meets, conventions and tours. But it is Route 66, passing right through the center of town that has really put Springfield on the map for auto events. From nostalgic roadside diners to quirky memorabilia, the Mother Road lends the city a “car culture” vibe that can’t be found anywhere else.

This year, several groups will host regional and national events in Springfield:

  • The Vintage Thunderbird Club of America will host its North Central Regional Meet July 11-14 at the Northfield Inn and Conference Center.
  • The City will welcome the Oldsmobile Club of America for their national convention scheduled for July 23-17 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
  • The International Mercury Owners Association will join forces with the International Route 66 Mother Road Festival for their national convention September 27-29, 2013 in downtown Springfield.

The Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau is the go-to resource to help ensure successful regional and national events. Staff at the bureau understands the scope of planning both large and small events, and can assist with everything from finding the right venue to suggesting scenic driving tours, to custom promotional materials that help boost attendance. Consider them a friendly local service station to help tune-up your next auto event.
