The U.S. women’s national soccer team will travel to Hawaii later this year to play its first-ever match in the Aloha State, according to an Oct. 15 announcement by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Current world champions, the team will face off against Trinidad and Tobago in a victory-tour match scheduled for Dec. 6 at Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium, according to an article in Travel Weekly.

“We are excited and honored that the U.S. Women's National Team will play in Hawaii for the first time,” George Szigeti, the HTA president and CEO, said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming the team, their families and the fans to experience the Hawaiian Islands. Soccer is one of the most popular sports worldwide, and having the USWNT here will showcase our ability to host sporting events of this caliber.”

After beating Japan in July this summer to claim the World Cup championship, the U.S. Woman’s National Team kicked off a victory tour of friendly matches in Pittsburgh on Aug. 16. Honolulu will be the seventh stop in the 10-city national tour.

“When I took this job I was told of the importance of having a wide footprint in terms of where we bring the team to play, and this first-ever game in Hawaii certainly stays true to that goal," said U.S. head coach Jill Ellis in a statement. “I know the players and staff are very excited about going to Hawaii, and we are looking forward to the experience of being on Oahu and playing this historic match against T&T at the Aloha Stadium.”

HTA officials said information on ticket sales will be announced at a later date. For more information on the game, visit www.ussoccer.com.
