Ragnar Relays, a running race that produced its first road event in Hawaii this year, has announced that it will add a trail version of the race on Oahu in 2017.

The Ragnar Trail North Shore will take place April 21 and 22 and will be the company's first trail race in the state of Hawaii.

Its first road race in the state was held on Hawaii Island on Oct. 14 and 15, where teams of 12 tackled a 200-mile course. The trail races involve teams of eight runners, who cover a combined 120 miles.

The trail race will be on Oahu's North Shore at Turtle Bay Resort, where three different loop courses will wind through thick jungle and across white-sand beaches.

Ragnar, founded in 2004, is billed as the largest overnight relay race company in the country, and more than 100,000 runners take part in their relays each year. The company's trail series began in 2013.
