Hawaii VCB Lands Billfish Tournament

The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) has announced that Hawaii Island’s Kona Coast will be home to the 54th Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT). The tournament will run August 3-August 10, 2013 7:00am - 4:00pm.

The event will be held starting from the Kailua Pier, 1 Kaahumanu Pl.

For five days, teams from around the world fish the famous waters off the Kona coast aboard some of the finest sport fishing vessels with captains who have built reputations around the world for catching big fish. HIBT is headquartered on Kailua Pier and the public can watchas fishing starts each day sharply at 7 a.m. At 4pm, boats return to Kailua pier with their team and catch.

HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control is anchored at Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

About HIBT: Throughout the years, HIBT has hosted teams from around the world including Australia, China, Bahamas, Bermuda, British Isles, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Tahiti, Vanuatu and from across the USA. HIBT is supported by the Hawaii County Department of Research and Development and the Hawaii Tourism Authority, as well as by numerous corporate and community donors.
