The Race, a half Marathon and 5K weekend that supports black-owned businesses, charities and neighborhoods, has made an announcement concerning its October race:

Greetings RACErs all over the world. First, we would like to thank each of you for your amazing support and continued patience as we prepare for The Race 2020. To say it has been a challenging spring, would be a vast understatement; however, as we progress into the summer, we are focused on persevering through this ever changing and fluid situation.

The cities of Atlanta and East Point are both on a moratorium for assembly permit processing. Additionally, our Expo and Race Day Venue, Impact Event Center has not indicated a date for reopening or resuming events and gatherings. These restrictions, coupled with the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control, have led us to the conclusion that The Race 2020 cannot move forward as a large in-person event.

Accordingly, we have decided to shift The Race 2020 to a virtual and digital format: The Race 2020 Pivot Edition. The theme will be Excellence, and we are committed to ensuring this will be a year that participants will never forget.

Three years ago we, challenged you to “Back The Race” to establish a legacy for an event we can all be proud of. Today we encourage you to continue that support to build upon that foundation of unity we created.

We have all been asked to cope with circumstances that we were, perhaps, underprepared to deal with. While we are confident in our ability to provide a memorable race experience, we also recognize that these are challenging times. We believe that The Race is built for times such as these, but we also understand that not everyone is in position to participate in The Race 2020 Pivot Edition. In a world that is steadily increasing in complication, we are hoping to provide a way forward to accommodate everyone.
