IRONMAN and the Augusta Sports Council have agreed to a five-year partnership renewal to continue the longstanding and popular IRONMAN® 70.3® Augusta triathlon through 2030. The triathlon consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run throughout the Augusta region. The Augusta Sports Council estimates a total economic impact value of over $76 million since 2009, with approximately 2,500 registered athletes coming to race each year.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Augusta for a further five years,” said Scott Langen, Vice President, Operations - North America for IRONMAN. “The IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta race continues to be one of the most popular races in the North American portfolio year after year. We look forward to continuing to build on what we have created here in Augusta since it was first launched in 2009 and welcoming athletes and the community back to this weekend’s race.”
Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson said, “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with IRONMAN for another five years. Each year, the IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta race attracts thousands of athletes, families, and spectators from around the world—bringing not only incredible athletic competition, but also millions in economic impact and a spotlight on our city’s vibrant community. We look forward to working alongside IRONMAN and the Augusta Sports Council to build even more opportunities for local businesses, hospitality, and tourism, while showcasing the spirit, resilience, and Southern hospitality that define Augusta.”
"Our team is proud to continue serving as hosts of IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta triathlon for another five years," stated Augusta Sports Council CEO, Michelle Pippin. "Since the inaugural race in 2009, we’ve built strong, lasting relationships with IRONMAN, The IRONMAN Foundation, our local partners, and the thousands of dedicated volunteers who make this event not only possible, but successful year after year. We look forward to welcoming athletes from around the world each September and showcasing all that our community has to offer."
The event offers thousands of volunteer opportunities for residents throughout the entire region to participate. Additionally, The IRONMAN Foundation has been providing over $20,000 annually to local charities, with a total of nearly $300,000 in historical giveback in the area.
The 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta triathlon is set to return on Sunday, Aug. 28, following the cancellation of the 2024 event due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. Athletes will experience a fast 1.2-mile downriver swim in the Savannah River before biking 56-miles through rural Augusta, taking in all this scenic Southern destination has to offer. The 13.1-mile spectator-filled run course will take athletes along the beautifully shaded North Augusta Greeneway trail before an unforgettable finish in downtown Augusta.
