Augusta Sports Council to Host USA Cycling Masters Road National Championship

The Augusta Sports Council is excited to host the USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships June 1-4, 2017 in Augusta's River Region. The four-day event will take place in Downtown Augusta, Fort Gordon and the J. Strom Thurmond Dam in Columbia County. USA Cycling visited Augusta's River Region in 2011 and 2012.

A total of 1,000 cyclists are estimated to compete in the region for national championships in road, individual time trial and criterium disciplines. The four-day schedule is as follows; Thursday, June 1st, Time Trial at the Thurmond Lake Visitor Center, Friday, June 2nd - Saturday, June 3rd, Road Race at Fort Gordon and Sunday, June 4th Criterium in Downtown Augusta.

The Augusta Sports Council, along with the Columbia County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Fort Gordon MWR are working hard to welcome the thousands of friends, families and media representatives to our community for this exciting event.

"We are very excited to host USA Cycling," says Shelly Blackburn, Executive Director of the Columbia County CVB. "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the best Columbia County has to offer the Time Trial participants."

USA Cycling's National Events Manager, Shawn Brett, says, "USA Cycling is excited to be back in Augusta, Georgia for the 2017 Masters National Road Championships. Augusta has played host to many national level events, including a previous edition of Masters and Amateur Nationals, along with the Tour de Georgia. Competitors should expect proven and challenging course throughout the weekend."
