Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation to Benefit

The Greater Gwinnett Championship Presented by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating, an official event on the PGA TOUR’s Champions Tour, announced today the benefiting charities of the annual golf tournament, focusing exclusively on healthcare recipients. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation will receive the proceeds from the tournament and the week’s events.

“We are very excited at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to again partner with our friends from the Greater Gwinnett Championship,” said Scott Hodoval, vice president development at Children’s.  “Support from wonderful events such as these allow us to continue making a positive impact and providing specialized pediatric care to the nearly 200,000 children in Gwinnett and throughout the state of Georgia.”

Jason Chandler, President of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation added, “We are so grateful once again to be selected as a charity recipient. GMC’s Concussion Institute and Sports Medicine program will benefit for years to come because of the generous investments made by the Greater Gwinnett Championship.”

The 2014 Greater Gwinnett Championship raised $178,160 for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation, among other charities, which was an increase from the first year of the tournament. Unlike any other professional sports organization, the vast majority of PGA TOUR tournaments are structured as non-profit organizations designed to donate 100 percent of net proceeds to charity.

“By focusing our charitable proceeds exclusively on healthcare benefactors we feel we’ll have a positive impact on Gwinnett county and Georgia,” said Greater Gwinnett Championship Executive Director Stan Hall. “Additionally, we chose to give to only two organizations this year, increasing the effect we’re able to have on both organizations.”
