The United States Chung Do Kwan Association (USCDKA) is celebrating its 50 year anniversary during its National Championship in Daytona Beach, July 20-22 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.

“Of its 5,000 members, the USCDKA brings 1,500 competitors and spectators to Daytona Beach for its exciting national championship events, many of which are open to the public,” said Tara Hamburger,  CSEE, sports sales manager, Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Part of our teaching is building character development. We teach determination and focus,” said Grandmaster Brenda J. Sell. “The kind of people we have at our events are people who are building character and have a can-do attitude. They are the greatest strength of our organization.” A guiding principal throughout the organization’s 50 years has been service to others.

Sell speaks highly of the Nights of Champions, Saturday, July 22 when the top 10 national competitors will be revealed.

“It’s the best of the best walking out on that stage,” said Sell, who is the first American woman ever to achieve ninth degree black belt in the Kukkiwon certification. “It’s a very high entertainment type of event. We finish it right before 9 p.m. so the athletes can go outside after and enjoy the fireworks off the Daytona Beach Pier.” The group will also enjoy a sand castle building contest Thursday, July 20 at 6 p.m.

Spectator passes, which include entry into the Night of Champions, can be ordered online for $15 or will be on sale at the door for $20. A VIP Upgrade is available for $35.
