Success from All-Star Week Continues to be Felt in Orlando

25 Aug, 2020

The Downtown Orlando Partnership (DOP) announced 2019 MLS All-Star Week as the winner of the sports event category for the 2019 Golden Brick Awards. Greater Orlando Sports Commission (GO Sports) President & CEO Jason Siegel accepted the award on behalf of the five event partners who co-hosted the week-long celebration of soccer, including GO Sports, the City of Orlando, Downtown Development Board, Osceola County, and Orlando City Soccer Club.

2019 marks the fourth year in a row that GO Sports-hosted events have taken home a Golden Brick Award. Past winners include the Celebrating Women in Sports Luncheon presented by Orlando Health (2018), WrestleMania 33 (2017), and Copa America Centanario (2016).

“Thank you to the Downtown Orlando Partnership for this honor. We are extremely proud to have been a part of hosting a sold-out 2019 MLS All-Star Game and all of the community events during MLS All-Star week,” said Orlando City SC CEO Alex Leitao. “MLS All-Star Week gave us another significant opportunity to welcome national and international soccer to Central Florida, and we couldn’t be more proud of our fans for creating a passionate atmosphere across our region and inside of Exploria Stadium.”

“We are so pleased to have been awarded the Golden Brick Award for 2019 MLS All-Star Week and are excited to share the honor with our event partners. Make no mistake, this event would not have come to be had it not been for the leadership of Mayor Dyer, Thomas Chatmon, and Alex Leitao in partnership with Commissioner Fred Hawkins and our partners in Osceola County,” said Jason Siegel, President & CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission. “Our community hosted more than 10 events throughout the week. From the Welcome Reception at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando, to MLS Works Community Day at Neptune Middle School in Kissimmee, hosting MLS All-Star week was the definition of a successful regional effort.”

“Major League Soccer is honored to be recognized alongside our partners at the Greater Orlando Sports Commission and Orlando City SC by Downtown Orlando Partnership for the historic 2019 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target,” said Camilo Durana, MLS SVP of Properties and Events. “MLS All-Star Week brought musical entertainment, interactive fan experiences, charitable events and more as fans celebrated the best players in our League. From the world-class venues to best-in-class accommodations, the Greater Orlando region united the global soccer community and elevated the All-Star experience for fans.”

The Golden Brick Awards program, this year presented by Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, annually recognizes community and development projects that positively impact downtown Orlando. In addition to the 2019 MLS All-Star Game and MLS Soccer Celebration (fan fest) hosted at Exploria Stadium, multiple community events were hosted in downtown Orlando.
